Well, a couple of weeks ago I found out I have DCIS, ductal carcinoma in situ, a non-invasive type of breast cancer. I thought I'd put together this blog for whomever might want to see how this goes....and.....because this could happen to most anyone.
Breast cancer will strike 1 of every 8 women - ONE in every EIGHT! That means that out of every 8 of your office colleagues, or your friends, or your neighbors, or your family, there will be one woman who will wind up with breast cancer. I'm still amazed at that fact.
No one that I know of in my family has ever had cancer of any type. I'm 56 (& told I don't look it!), very active, in great health, not overweight, eat well, sleep well, not stressed out (at least most of the time), love my husband, kids & dogs. So what's up with this? All I can think of is MY BAD! Well, I don't really think that I guess, but I thought it sounded like a catchy name for a blog.
As of now we think surgery will consist of a lumpectomy, sentinel lymph node removal with radiation every day Mon-Fri for seven (yes, 7) weeks. If pathology finds all the margins are not clear, I'll have to go back for a mastectomy but no radiation. Since neither one sounds like a picnic, I'm prepared for whatever happens.
That's the same thing they told me, but they got good clean margins. My radiation treatment was only 5-1/2 weeks feel bad for you to go 7 weeks. Get the surgery over with and start on the road to recovery. I wish you all the best our prayers are with you.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you Cindy on your road to healing. I will be following your progress on your new cool blog!!
