All Kinds of Awesome!

Got my surgery date set up today - March 2, 2011.  Below is my wonderful surgeon, Edward Jordan.  He's "all kinds of awesome" to quote Steph, my daughter, and I agree!

Today I found out I'll have to first have the radioactive dye injected that will determine which lymph node to remove, wait 1.5 hours, then the radiologist will stick in some wires where Dr. Jordan is supposed to remove tissue. Then the lymph node removal and lumpectomy.  No stitches to remove (yay).  I'll have the option of staying in the hospital if I want, or if I feel OK can come home (which I hope).  Pain pills and anti-nausea meds will come home with me.  Then wait for the pathology report.  I'll theoretically feel like crap for 3-4 days.   Sigh....I really dislike having down time and really hope that will be it and I won't have to go back for any more.

One of the guys I work with told me his wife was just diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer and Jordan was her surgeon too.  They did not waste a moment getting the surgery done as her tumor moved very quickly.  Then I ran into a friend at the store who had a later stage of breast cancer she found a little over a year ago.  She just finished chemo, a year later - oh, but first she had open heart surgery.  Man, I think my situation is pretty fortunate if it has to be at all.

Get your mamos done people!  Don't delay.

  2. Ask for an all IV anesthesia. I had that and I was fine. No nausea or anything.
